ARSM 是 ABRSM 演奏文憑體系的入門級別，相當於英國第 6 級（Level 6）資歷框架，大致對應大學本科一年級的演奏水準。考試由兩部分組成：獨奏演奏（約 35 分鐘）及口試（Viva Voce）。考生需自行選擇曲目，組成一個均衡的演奏節目，通常包含來自不同時期的作品（巴洛克、古典、浪漫、現代）。

LRSM 是 ABRSM 演奏文憑的中級別，相當於英國第 7 級（Level 7）資歷框架，大致對應碩士研究生水準。除獨奏演奏（約 40 分鐘）外，考生還需提交一份輔助節目（Supporting Programme），包括演奏節目單及書面說明，闡述曲目選擇的理由及詮釋方法。
LRSM 的曲目要求比 ARSM 更為嚴格，通常包含更長篇幅的作品，如完整的奏鳴曲、協奏曲樂章或大型組曲。考生的演奏應展示出更高層次的音樂成熟度、技術掌控及個人詮釋風格。

提前 12–18 個月開始備考
演奏文憑的曲目篇幅較長，技術要求較高。建議在考試前 12 至 18 個月開始系統性備考，確保有足夠時間深入鑽研每首作品，而非在考前倉促準備。

曲目選擇的策略
選擇既能展示你的技術強項，又能體現音樂成熟度的作品。避免選擇超出當前技術能力的作品，因為在考試壓力下，技術上的不穩定會更加明顯。同時，確保節目在風格和時期上的多樣性。
Strategic Repertoire Selection: Choose works that showcase your technical strengths while demonstrating musical maturity. Avoid selecting pieces beyond your current technical capacity, as instability becomes more pronounced under examination pressure. Ensure stylistic and period diversity across the programme.
定期模擬演奏
在備考過程中，定期進行完整的模擬演奏至關重要。在老師、家人或朋友面前演奏完整節目，模擬考試環境，有助於建立舞台信心和演奏的連貫性。
Regular Mock Performances: Regular full-programme mock performances are essential during preparation. Playing the complete programme before teachers, family, or friends in a simulated examination environment helps build stage confidence and performance continuity.
深入研究曲目背景
口試（Viva Voce）要求考生對所演奏的作品有深入的了解。除了演奏技術，還需研究作曲家的生平、作品的創作背景、風格特點及詮釋傳統。閱讀相關的音樂分析文章和聆聽不同版本的錄音，有助於形成自己的詮釋觀點。
In-Depth Study of Repertoire Background: The Viva Voce requires in-depth knowledge of the performed works. Beyond technical preparation, research the composer's life, the work's compositional context, stylistic features, and interpretive traditions. Reading analytical essays and listening to multiple recordings helps develop your own interpretive perspective.
The ABRSM performance diploma pathway offers three levels: ARSM (Associate), LRSM (Licentiate), and FRSM (Fellowship). It is important to note that the DipABRSM was discontinued in 2019; ARSM is now the entry-level performance diploma in the current system. Each level requires a solo recital programme of increasing length and complexity, accompanied by a Viva Voce oral examination.
For the 2025/2026 examination cycle, candidates should consult the current ABRSM syllabus for any updates to requirements. The ABRSM regularly reviews its diploma syllabuses, and it is essential to use the most current edition when planning your programme. Candidates in Hong Kong can sit ABRSM diplomas at approved examination centres throughout the year, subject to availability.
Successful diploma preparation requires not only technical mastery but also musical depth, historical awareness, and the ability to articulate your interpretive choices. Working with a teacher who has themselves achieved a high level of performance — ideally with conservatoire training at master's level or above — provides the most effective preparation for these demanding examinations.
